Genevieve has been exposed to quality literature since early childhood, she has good comprehension, concentration and vocabulary skills. She can narrate content and meaning well. She has recently discovered a love of reading and is at that stage of devouring series. Her spelling and writing are our current focus areas.
Our desire is by the conclusion of Stage 3 Genevieve will be able to:
- communicate in informal and formal contexts
- use effective handwriting and publish text via digital technology
- read fluently and comprehend a range of texts on challenging topics
- spell familiar and unfamiliar words
- identify different kinds of texts, understanding that language has different purposes
- think imaginatively and creatively when composing texts
- use effective and accurate sentence structure, grammatical features, punctuation conventions with an appropriate vocabulary
Mathematics
Genevieve knows her multiplication facts, can do basic decimals, can add and subtract numbers up to five digits, recognises common fractions, can read time and is familiar with length, weight and estimate area.
Our desire is by the conclusion of Stage 3 Genevieve will be able to:
- can do addition and subtraction of numbers of any size
- applies appropriate strategies for multiplication and division
- compares,orders and calculates with fractions & decimals
- uses appropriate unit to measure; lengths, distances, perimeters and temperatures
- estimates and measures area, volume, capacities & mass
- identifies & describes 2D & 3D shapes
- uses 24 hour time
Science
Genevieve is aware of her immediate world and the wider world around her. She absorbs scientific knowledge informally and formally through a variety of multimedia. She displays curiosity and asks questions about various topic areas.
Our desire is by the conclusion of Stage 3 Genevieve will:
- continue to develop a questing mind regards ‘all things science’
- have a further understanding of the importance of sustainable futures
- understand how electricity works and its importance
- identifies solids, liquids and gases
- dedevelop and understanding of the Earth, Solar System and the Living World
- describe life cycles
History
Genevieve’s history focus last year included British history which particularly captured her imagination. This year will include a focus on Australian history.
By the conclusion of Stage 3 Genevieve will be able to:
- describe the effects of British colonisation in Australia
- understand the impact the discovery of gold had on Australia
- comprehend the importance of the early exploreres
- have an inquiring mind into ‘all things history’ and apply skills of inquiry
Geography
Genevieve has an interest in mapping and cultures.
By the conclusion of Stage 3 Genevieve will be able to:
- have an awareness of and appreciation for different cultures and customs
- have a familiarity and confidence with maps
- to be able to recognise and map the different continents and many countries.
