Mariah has been exposed to quality literature since early childhood, she has a love of reading and outstanding comprehension and vocabulary skills. Her writing and spelling skills are strong. Writing is an activity she enjoys and this is reflected in her work.

Mathematics
Mariah understands equivalent fractions, can add, subtract and multiply fractions and find fractions of quantities. Can add, subtract and multiply decimal numbers, using the column notation and divide decimal numbers by natural numbers. Can round numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000. Understands measurement and can convert length, mass and capacity between the units. Uses 12 and 24 hour clocks for time and understands the concept of speed. Can understand and solve simple equations, and uses circle definitions including radius, diameter, and can find the perimeter and area of 2D shapes and the surface area and volume of simple 3D shapes.

- applies appropriate mathematical techniques to solve problems
- operates with fractions, decimals and percentages
- operates with ratios
- operates with algebraic equations
- calculates the perimeters of plane shapes and the circumferences of circles
- uses formulas to calculate the areas of quadrilaterals and circles and convert between units of area
Science
Mariah has a general knowledge of science, confidently undertakes experiments and absorbs scientific knowledge informally and formally through a variety of multimedia. She displays curiosity about various topic areas.
Our desire is by the conclusion of Stage 5 Mariah will:
- continue to develop a questing mind regards ‘all things science’
- identify problems that can be tested and make predictions
- follow instructions to undertake investigations
- process and analyse data from investigations and draw conclusions
- use appropriate strategies to produce plausible solutions to identified problems

History
Mariah is particularly interested in people and events throughout world history and Australian history.
By the conclusion of Stage 5 Mariah will be able to:
- develop knowledge and understanding of the nature of history and significant changes and developments from the past, the modern world and Australia
- develop knowledge and understanding of ideas, movements, people and events that shaped past civilisations, the modern world and Australia
- assess the actions of past individuals and groups in context
- describe the events of past societies
- uses a range of historical terms and concepts when communicating an understanding of the past.
Geography
Mariah has a passion for Geography, the study of languages and mapwork in particular is her interest. Mariah wishes to direct much of her energies towards furthering her knowledge of ‘all things Geographic’.
By the conclusion of Stage 5 Mariah will be able to:
- explain the diverse features and characteristics of a range of places and environments
- analyse the effects of interactions and connections between people, places and environments
- acquire and process geographical information by selecting and using appropriate and relevant geographical tools for inquiry
- map all the countries of the world
